Samsung CFG70: Gaming monitor Review July 2017

Quick picture processing and curved display, this sounds promising, but how good the Samsung C24FG70FQU really is?

Test Result
The Samsung is not a bargain, but it is worth the extra price. In four of the five areas, this monitor delivered top results in our review/test. The picture quality is really good and picture processing is damn fast. In addition, the Samsung offers a lot of adjustment possibilities. Built-in loudspeakers and a webcam are missing.

Pros:
High image quality
Very fast picture composition
Many adjustment possibilities
Low energy consumption

Cons:
No speakers installed
No webcam installed

With this new monitor, Samsung wants to target mainly gamers. But the stylish 24-inch monitor also makes a good addition on an office desk, as the test shows.

Fast image composition
Rather untypical for a gaming monitor, in this Samsung monitor is a display with VA technology. Such displays usually provide better picture quality than their counterparts using TN technology. TN is used with gaming monitors, however, because the image processing setup is usually faster. The C24FG70FQU however is able to compete with TN panels. Average response time was only 5.2 milliseconds and was thus at eye level with the fastest monitors that are using TN panels. Few monitors with TN technology are still a bit quicker. Due to the short reaction time, the C24FG70FQU does not show any jerky screen even in extreme action scenes. The picture quality is also top notch. The Samsung shows games, videos, and pictures bright and extremely contrasting with precise and very natural colors.

Versatile adjustable
For a 24-inch monitor, the Samsung weighs 5.2 kilograms, which is quite heavy. Most of the weight is in the monitor base. This ensures a firm stand on the desk and can be adjusted in height, inclination, and rotation. If necessary, the monitor can also be rotated into portrait format (Pivot function) or wall mounted. A corresponding bracket according to the VESA standard is included in the delivery. The operating menu of the Samsung is clear, but still somewhat cumbersome to use. There is only the choice of the monitor profile for fast keys, in the menu the user can navigate by a joystick, which sits uncomfortably and well-hidden on the back.

Five sockets are present in this monitor; three for the signal, one for the power supply, and one for headphones. Speakers, a webcam, or even a microphone isn’t available in this Samsung monitor. But this should not be a problem for most gamers; most prefer to play with a good gaming headset anyway.
